About Us

Spiral opened its doors in 2016 and has been working to improve the wellbeing of young people ever since. Our office is located close to the city centre, Unit 1, The Old Brewery, Carlisle, CA2 5SR.

To round-up what the 4-main outcomes for all involved with Spiral are:

  • Feeling valued – experience positive relationships
  • Opportunities for those with lived experiences
  • Social inclusion – connect with others
  • Improved well-being

Emotional Coaching - Carlisle

Staff provide emotional coaching to young people aged 8-17 who are being bullied, been bullied, and vulnerable to bullying. Once you have completed the online referral form you can find by clicking here, a staff member will contact you within 4-5 weeks to set-up an initial meeting.

What happens in the sessions: From the very beginning, our staff take time to get to know the individual and understand their current situation. There’s no pressure to talk about past experiences—this isn’t therapy. Instead, we focus on the here and now, and moving forward.

Each session offers a safe, supportive space where young people can reconnect with themselves, explore what truly matters to them, build confidence and self-worth. We help them develop the tools to empower them to handle challenges they’re facing.

Journey Together (D&D)

Funded through the Cumberland Council - Petteril Bank Panel. A youth engagement project using Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) as a modern tool for connection and emotional exploration. With over 25% of players reporting mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions, this project provides a safe, imaginative space for young people to build social skills and resilience. Currently these sessions are being held at Carlisle Youth Zone on a Friday evening.

We hope to provide additional soon —stay tuned for updates!

Listen

Spiral have been funded by the Lottery Awards for All, to manage a youth led project. Sadly when young people report bullying, they do not feel listened too! This is not about directing blame but taking a moment to stop and Listen, so we understand what it means to those young people who are affected by bullying.

There will launch night on the 21st November 2025, location and time to be confirmed. If you are a business and would like to sponsor this event, please get in touch with maryann@spiralcumbria.org.uk or sol@spiralcumbria.org.uk
